Meet the Association for Women in Science Greater Cincinnati, Ohio Chapter
Surely, “How to Achieve Work-Life Satisfaction” is a topic that appeals to most professionals given the ever-increasing demands we face at work, home
and in the community. The members of The Association of Women in Science (AWIS) Chapter of Greater Cincinnati had the opportunity to attend a career development workshop specifically designed to explore this topic for them on May 26. The event was co-sponsored by the Frost Brown Todd law firm and The Women’s Book. Featured panelists included:
- Dorothy Air, Associate Vice President for Entrepreneurial Affairs and Technology Commercialization, University of Cincinnati
- Sandra Degen, Vice President for Research and Professor of Pediatrics, University of Cincinnati

Kay Kinoshita, Department Head of Physics, University of Cincinnati

Panelist’s remarks focused on issues such as creating time-management systems, assessing your strengths and weaknesses and identifying your values and priorities.
The AWIS Greater Cincinnati Chapter is part of a national advocacy organization that champions the career and community interests of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics across all disciplines and employment sectors. AWIS has over 5000 members and 50+ chapters across the U.S. Diana Koch is the founding president of the AWIS Greater Cincinnati Chapter. She is a PhD Student at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Department of Molecular Genetics. The chapter’s goals include:
- Creating a network of STEM women in the greater Cincinnati area

Bridging the gap between industry and academia in various scientific fields

- Providing opportunities for mentorship in science
- Sponsoring local outreach and community service programs
- Becoming an advocate for scientific policy at all levels of government
